FINAL EXHIBITION 2005
| NAME OF ARTIST : | Mei Yung Jian Joe |
| YEAR OF WORK : | 2004 |
| MEDIUM : | Painting - Mixed Media. |
| TITLE OF WORK : | Untitled |
| DIMENSION : | 121cm by 171cm. |
| ARTIST STATEMENT : | Simplicity in Life brings out the best image. |
| ARTIST STYLE : | My ways of painting have no particular styles or concepts. I do not restrict myself or deliberately go looking for a style that would represent my works and me. I have never stop searching for my own style and even until now I have yet to settle myself with one that I like. Most artists or art practitioners would prefer to have a style of their own to represent them. For me, the joy of painting and the process is more important. Ever changing and continuing to explore is how and what I preferred. The feelings at that present moment while painting is what I enjoyed. |
| ARTWORKS : | Experimenting Studies |
| ART EDUCATION : | My style of teaching art is not to restrict and control. I always believe in letting them explore and develop their own style and characteristic. I have seen a lot of artworks from students with very good techniques but lack the souls and characteristic. In art, it is really different from the rest of the subject that would always have a fixed and systematic ways of instructions. Teaching art requires flexibility and observance from an art teacher or educator. Every class, stream, lever and even every individual must be put into consideration. The styles of teaching must be constantly modified to suit different needs and abilities. To be observance actually means to be able to understand one’s potential and development and guide them to achieve their goals not according to your preferences but to theirs. A piece of work whether good or bad should not determine the abilities of the students, they should be judged according to their progress over the lessons to see how much they would improve and absorb. |
